Von Rosenberg’s baseball career ended in the summer of 2014. Two years later, he joined the LSU football program as a walk-on quarterback/tight end candidate. In his third season with the Tigers football team, Von Rosenberg is an All-Southeastern Conference punter.

Almost ten years ago in his third season as baseball coach, Paul Mainieri led LSU to the national championship.

One of Mainieri’s 2009 Tigers baseball signees was Zach Von Rosenberg, a 6-foot-5 pitcher from Zachary (La.) High School. In a somewhat testy situation, Von Rosenberg chose professional baseball over LSU. Von Rosenberg was a sixth-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Von Rosenberg signed with Pittsburgh for $1.2 million – just one week before the deadline.
